This body of work consists of oil paintings on canvas, in which Katie Neece combines elements of 20th century geometric abstraction and 1990’s American shopping mall aesthetic. These elements from different time periods are familiar, yet historically ambiguous; they are recycled forms which haunt us through time. The mall is presented as a conceptual site which encapsulates the utopian promises of Modernism, which continually fail to materialize—leaving us to deal with the anxieties it failed to improve
